castles of sand

when i first saw you i danced in the hall
you came and you smiled and you left at first call
for i had my journey and you had your road
but we could share laughter and lighten the load

we chased after excellence, all on our own
and some joined in arms, for our skills we would hone
in conflict we came, with our friends at our back
we scared off the night and chased off the attack

and we came together with glory in mind
we built up a kingdom with walls that were undefined
sands they did shift and the lines did get blurred
but still it was wonderful just to be heard

and darkness and anger they clouded the sky
we sought it and fought it, our blades were not dry
our foes were not evil, some could be called friend
but these were the battles we chose without end

the best hearts get weary, some friends fell away
but still we did stay for the night and the day
the worst seeds find root in the cracks between friends
and show the most beautiful things can have ends

the castles we built, they are made out of sand
sparkling bright with the gems placed by all our hands
but dont you know now it was us that i loved
the rest has no meaning, its naught but a glove

for nothings forever, and nothing can stay
the walls can be chipped at, the sands washed away
intentions mean naught when a life is a game
so i'll walk away, for i will not be tamed

and if you know true you can call me your friend
then dont stop to wonder, i'm still who i've been
you'll find me in shadows as day turns to night
with sunshine my love and the truth as my light

but they can all keep their castles of sand
they'll all wash away with the flick of the waters hand
dont you know now that its me that i love
the rest can depart to below and above

"its so easy to get clouded sometimes. even the best do it. i'm no better."
